July 2024, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia – Prepare to be captivated as the legendary Chichele Presidential, re-opens its doors with renewed splendour in March 2025. Steeped in history, this iconic Zambian landmark promises to redefine luxury safaris within the breathtaking South Luangwa National Park.

Chichele presidential - Main Entrance

Originally built in the 1970s as a personal getaway for Zambia’s first president, the late Kenneth Kaunda, the location served as a haven for many distinguished guests who enjoyed the tranquillity of this presidential retreat. As a result of a successful collaboration between the owners Chichele Safaris, the multi-award-winning Chiawa Safaris, and the world-renowned Fox Browne Creative design team, along with architects Jack Alexander Studio, It has since undergone a complete transformation from the ground up.

This Zambian-owned property isn’t your average safari experience. Reimagining their heritage, they sought to create a contemporary experience to honour the lodge’s history.  Passionate about wildlife and the country’s culture, it was  equally their desire to create a timeless and iconic safari experience, putting Zambia on the map as one of the ultimate wildlife destinations for luxury travellers in Africa.

Africa inspired, the new Chichele Presidential unveils ten luxuriously appointed Vista Suites, situated amidst the awe-inspiring landscapes of South Luangwa National Park.  It will offer a unique fusion of history and modern design, while adhering to sustainable practices to preserve this incredible environment for future generations.

A Team of Visionaries, a Realized Dream

With a portfolio that already includes the award-winning Puku Ridge, Chiawa Safaris was a logical partner to co-manage and market Chichele Presidential.  The lodge’s transformation on the other hand was entrusted to the renowned Fox Browne Creative team, whose design and creativity have shaped a multitude of recognized safari lodges, including the acclaimed Lolebezi Safari Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River.

The brief: “To reimagine Chichele Presidential as a contemporary haven yet remain true to the safari ethos, whilst reflecting the property’s heritage and creating an entirely new, more luxurious guest experience.” This exciting transformation promises to deliver just that.

Uncompromising Luxury Meets Unwavering Sustainability

Perched on a magnificent hilltop in South Luangwa National Park, Chichele Presidential offers guests 360-degree views. These vistas showcase the pristine floodplains, rivers, and forests below; perfectly positioning guests to witness the Park’s abundant wildlife.

This exciting addition exemplifies the owner’s unwavering commitment to safari tourism and hospitality. Guests can expect an unparalleled experience where sustainability seamlessly blends with unmatched elegance. Every detail whispers luxury, while minimizing environmental impact. This isn’t just a safari; it’s an unforgettable adventure for discerning individuals, families (including children of all ages), and groups.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of Chichele’s redesign, a testament to Fox Browne Creative’s vision. The landscape takes centre stage, influencing both architecture and interiors. By reusing existing foundations, incorporating recycled materials, and utilizing energy-efficient systems powered by clean hydropower, Chichele showcases its commitment to environmental responsibility. The result is a layered and tactile experience that feels as natural and authentic as the surrounding wilderness.

Drawing on its Chewa name ‘salt’, the Lodge’s colour palette features a stunning contrast of ebony and ivory.  Whist, charred timber accents and subtle touches of copper, Zambia’s signature export, add a further hint of luxury.
