Chichele Presidential Lodge will open in March 2025, redefining luxury safaris in Zambia.

Once the personal retreat of Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, Chichele has undergone a dramatic transformation led by its new owners, together with industry leaders Chiawa Safaris and award-winning hospitality designers Fox Browne Creative.

The Zambian-born owners’ vision was to transform the colonial design into a contemporary haven steeped in history and solidify the country’s status as a premier destination for seeking an unforgettable, luxury African safari.

Perched on a hilltop, Chichele affords breathtaking views of its wildlife-rich floodplains below. It offers ten private, spacious Vista suites. The lodge is steeped in history, this iconic Zambian landmark promises to redefine luxury safaris.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of Fox Browne Creative’s redesign of Chichele. Reusing existing foundations, incorporating recycled materials, and utilising energy-efficient systems showcase this commitment. Locally sourced materials and handcrafted details are incorporated, ensuring the lodge remains deeply rooted in Zambian culture.

The architecture and interior décor’s colour palette echoes Chichele’s name, which translates to “salt” in the Chewa language. Ebony and ivory create a striking contrast, while charred timber accents evoke the local soil. Copper, Zambia’s preeminent export, adds a subtle touch of luxury.

All ten luxurious Vista Suites are fully air-conditioned and include a private butler’s lobby, sitting room, bedroom, bathroom, and covered veranda with a private plunge pool and outdoor shower. Two of these suites, one offering disabled access, are connected by a Safari Lounge with a private sitting room and dining room – ideal for families or friends travelling together. For added convenience, a dedicated golf cart is available.  All suites are impeccably appointed and include Wi-Fi.

Relax on the expansive communal deck or enjoy a quiet meditation and sunrise yoga there. Maintain your fitness regime in the state-of-the-art gym, which overlooks a 18.5-meter rim-flow pool. Indulge in a massage in the safari treatment room, which caters to couples or single guests.
